Hello!

Got Hope?

Hello all! My name is Julie. I'm a full-time student at Missouri Southern. I'm an English major that plans to teach in the near future. I'm a senior by credit hours, but will be in school a little while longer. I'm not sure how people can do it, that is obtain a four year degree in four years! Nonetheless, kudos to those who can!
My hobbies consist of and are not limited to: reading, writing, anything that centers around nature, getting outdoors as often as possible, playing the piano, and having intelligent conversations over coffee.

I work for a local organization called Alternative Opportunities. It's a state based program that works with individuals that have developmental disabilities. It is extremely rewarding to assist people and help improve individuals' quality of life.

One of my foremost passions is the environment. It is very important for each and everyone of us to take care of our environment and ecosystems. Let us not forget, we only have one Earth.

I suppose that this will suffice for now. If anyone knows of a good cause needing volunteers or representatives, feel free to let me know.

Sincerely,

Julie

I,m glad you are sticking around for awhile! I have taught a little bit of everything in the Art Department. I am primarily a painter, but have been into Apple computers for 20 years and set up their first graphics computer lab in the department. I taught design, beginning and advanced drawing, beginning and advanced painting as well as Art Appreciation. I also set up and taught the first online Blackboard Art Appreciation classes and did so until I retired in August.

If you haven't been to an art opening at the Spiva Museum downtown at 3rd and Wall, it's great fun. There is the biggest opening of the year Friday, Nov 7 from 5:30-7:30 pm. It's the annual membership show and will have some great work on display and there is no charge. If you can't make the opening, try to drop by some time from Tues-Sat 10-5 or Sun 1-5.

Thanks!

Having just retired from the Art Department at Southern, I believe that your graduation time table is on schedule with the majority of the students. I hope you stay in this region, we need more young women and men that possess you sensitivity to humankind and the environment. Your photo is great!

I'm an English major and I'm reading a young adult novel by Chris Crutcher called Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes. Truly, it is appalling that so many individuals and parents want this book banned from schools. As a future teacher, I feel it will be my duty to bring truth to my students. Frankly, I cannot stand those books that sugarcoat the lives of teenagers. They are not real. Crutcher's work is reality. Fact of life: reality is more bees than butterflies, but when we take it off of our shelves,… Continue
